Are You Feeling Sleepy at odd times? God could be “updating” you … It could be a “God Moment”.
One of my favorite times of the day is that moment at night when I finally lie safely in my comfy bed, ready to shut my mind down from all the feverish activity of the day. I lie there relaxing, slowing down my thoughts, softly praying and I feel myself drifting into the twilight zone -also known as the Alpha level of our sleep. This is where most heavenly visions and spiritual encounters take place, just before falling sound asleep.
Scientists say that everyone dreams at least one or two hours each night during the alpha level, that dreams are the guardians of our mental and emotional well-being, and that without them we would have a nervous breakdown. Our bodies need that period of 7-8 hours of sleep at night to stay healthy as this is the way our Father has established it for most of his creatures.
Are You Feeling Sleepy at odd times?
Sometimes during the day, when we are working, studying, or doing something that requires our full concentration, for no reason we start to suddenly feel sleepy.
In those awkward occasions our normal reaction is to feel annoyed with our “untimely sleepiness”. We do all we can to wake ourselves up and go wash our face, or quickly drink a cup of coffee or tea so we can continue doing what we were doing. I have had to do this quite a few times myself.
Have you?
While meditating about this subject the other day, the thought came to me that the cause of day sleepiness may not just be something related to older age, sluggish thyroid, food allergies, depression, boredom, etc. It may not only be a physical cause.
Could it sometimes be a spiritual thing? What if God wanted to tell you something urgent and could not get thru to you because you were so busy doing something else?
I already knew our Creator does that regularly during our sleep at night; He made it clear in His book in Job 33:14-16 which says: “For God speaks once, yea twice, yet man perceive it not. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men, in slumbering upon the bed; then he opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction…”
Another one of those annoying computer updates!
Sometimes I am working at my computer and suddenly an update window pops up in my screen informing me that the computer needs to be restarted in order for the important update of such and such program to take effect. Those pop up notices seem to always be something very timely and needed for the optimum functioning of a program or even the processor. Something you can not ignore or your computer may not work well.
What is our usual reaction to that? We get annoyed! “Oh not now!” And unless you chose to restart in 5, 10 or more minutes, the computer will automatically restart by itself!
There is nothing you can do but save your work and wait… and sometimes it takes several minutes for the computer to restart.
If you keep manually postponing the updates, when you turn your computer off at night, next day you may find out that there were tens of thousands of updates backed up and that your device will take quite a while to start.
We all know that those updates are something necessary for the good functioning of our computers, yet we dislike them because they interrupt and slow down our working/browsing pace.
During one such untimely update, my computer was “in sleeping mode” while being updated and I suddenly felt sleepy myself and thought, “oh, maybe I should have a quick nap while the computer is updating”. So although it was mid morning of a beautiful summer day, I went to bed.
While lying there in my bed the thought occurred to me: “What if God is trying to “update” me too?”
What if He needs to allow sleep to come over us -even at the most odd times- because there is something really necessary He wants to tell us? Maybe He has to download a timely message in our spirits that can only be released when our bodies are “out of the way” or on “sleeping mode”.
A full article downloaded during nap time!
Well, I took that thought to heart and asked Holy Spirit to feel free to download in my soul whatever He thought was necessary for a better performance; I then yielded and allowed myself to drift into a sweet sleep.
When I woke up about half an hour later, I felt refreshed and invigorated: My mind was in a creative and excited mode, flooded with inspired thoughts and ideas and I had the urge to write them down.
As soon as i started typing, the flow increased and in a very short time I received not only the “download” of the article “Dream Awakening”, but also the outline for the next two chapters of the book. (And i didn’t even know i was writing a book!) Now this is far out to me.
Things are changing, folks. The veil between the physical and the spiritual realms is getting thinner by the minute!
Technology is advancing at an incredible speed and there are tons of new discoveries being made in so many fields. Quantum physics seem to get closer and closer to understanding some of God’s most basic mysteries, and it is very interesting, although it takes those dear scientists so many years to formulate their theories.
Yet if you are a child of God who loves and trusts her Father, you have a relationship with Him and are used to having good communication, it only takes a “God update” during a few minutes of sleep for you to receive instant revelation and wake up just “knowing” something you didn’t know before. Then you only need to write it down, because as you do, more and more details will come to your mind. The flash of revelation will grow and deepen, and will become a mini thesis on the divinely revealed subject. These processes will thrill your soul, inspire your spirit, and even give renewed life and energy to your body!
Now I have learned to love and cherish my catnaps!
Seniors nap frequently
Maybe this is why when people age and grow old, they take so many naps during the day and is so easy for them to fall asleep. I am sure God is taking that time with them to love, encourage and update their spirits in preparation for the new place where they are going to be living soon.
We may just see old folks sleeping in their chairs, but they may be getting the latest spiritual updates that are not even available to younger people, because they have not reached that level of maturity yet.
That understanding should change our perception of the value of our elders and help us respect and honor them much more!
Leviticus 19:32: “Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honor the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the LORD.”
Babies sleep even more than seniors
The same process seems to be true for babies and infants. They seem to be sleeping all day. Now you know why! Someone has to prepare them for what they are going to face in this world!
Matthew 18:10: “Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, that in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.”
During the first 5 years of our lives, we learn and grow more than in the rest of our lives all together. Sleep is crucial for the development of our body and our soul.
Sleep as sacred time
In most native cultures people respect those who are sleeping and consider it as a sacred time. Seems like they know something we may have forgotten in our modern fast way of living.
Cherish your sleep time, because if you are open to God´s Spirit you will wake up not only well rested but also wiser!
